Course Description

Make a great hire by interviewing effectively and selecting the best candidate for the team. We’ll discuss questions and topics you can and cannot ask, how to assess if a candidate is a match, and how you can ensure you’re giving every candidate fair consideration. Better decisions, fewer regrets.

Audience: All Employees
Duration: 2 hours

Learning objectives include:

  • Create behavioral-based interview questions that capture the candidate’s past performance to help predict how they’ll perform at your organization

  • Be aware of which topics are off-limits and which questions you can safely ask

  • Know what an ideal answer looks like and probe for additional details while mitigating unconscious bias

  • Provide fair, job-related interview feedback for each candidate to help make the final decision

Behavioral-Based Interviewing - Past performance and behavior is the most accurate predictor of future performance and behavior.

The Focal Point

Behavioral-based interview questions are based on competencies (which are measurable or observable knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors) that are tied to the job description, expectations, and critical functions to successful job performance.

Focusing on competencies and behaviors will help keep the conversation job-related, legal, and relevant to predicting if the candidate is qualified for the role.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to create effective behavioral-based interview questions and probing questions.
